McKenzie Forsberg is headed home. She’s quit her big-city job to return to her roots in the small town of Lake Forest. Kenzi hopes to buy her childhood home from her brother, Tom, as a way of revisiting the peace and security she’s been missing in her life. But soon she is shocked to discover that the house has a pending sale, and Tom won’t budge from the sale—not even for his sister. Handsome widower Jared Rawlins catches Kenzie’s eye until she realizes that he’s the one who is buying her house—but he can only close the deal if he sells his own house by Christmas Eve. Jared is more than a little interested in Kenzie but has second thoughts when it seems that she may be sabotaging the sale of his home. Slippery feelings of animosity and distrust ensue, with both Jared and Kenzie denying the chemistry between them. But then an unexpected discovery about their connected past puts a new twist in the dynamic. Now, can they put their differences aside and come to terms on a relationship that could last forever?

I needed this book. I have been reading a lot of sad and kind of scary books, so this one came just at the right time. It's so sweet, and just gives you that "feel good" felling. First, I love the setting of this book. I love how the author made me want to sit on a porch in this quaint little town of Lake Forest, with a good book and a blanket. I am not much for small towns, but this one was beautiful. Second, the characters were awesome. Kenzie seemed to be a bit beat down when she goes home for Christmas, but is determined to make her life better. Quite some time had passed before Kenzie and her daughter Sarah had been to Kenzies hometown. She had stayed away for some time trying to avoid her father. The past year had seemed to overwhelm Kenzie so she has decided to go home and has a surprise to share with her family. Jared is a swoon worthy man. He is a single father to his son Corey. He is trying to find a place for him and his son to call home that might be a little bigger than where they are living now. Jared has always loved this little town, and is excited to be back. This story is such a sweet, sweet story. Kenzie decided it was time to return to her home of Lake Forest. She has had a hard year, and finally decided to leave her well paying job, get a new one just out side of her home town where she grew up. She has plans to buy her childhood home and cannot wait to get to town to tell her brother about her plans. When she gets to town things don't quite go as she had planned. She finds out that someone else has put an offer on her house. She is determined to do anything she can to make sure that offer doesn't go through. Then walks in Jared. Jared is handsome and kind, and worst of all is planning on buying Kenzie's childhood home. Kenzie likes Jared but all is fair in love and buying houses. What happens after is such a fun story, of friendship, mistakes, Christmas time miracles, and love. If you are in need of a cozy, heart warming read, pick this book up. You will not be disappointed. This is a terrific story at pre-Christmastime! Enjoy this sentimental, but delightful, tale of a woman's marriage gone bad, the feeling of betrayal by loved ones, the precious memories from childhood, a search for something familiar and secure...of starting over. Kenseie and her daughter were going "home" for Christmas. It had been two painful years she had stayed away after her divorce and the painful remarks her father had said. She was returning to surprise her brother and sister-in-law by purchasing their home they were trying to sale...her childhood home. She desperately needed that familiarity and  good memories with the resulting good memories her daughter would also enjoy. Christmas was two weeks away. She doubted she could wait that long to give them her surprise! Who would ever thought she would find another job within the area she grew up in? Once she arrived at her brothers house greeted his family, they all headed to her parents house...little did she know it would be her who got the surprise! The story presents a lot of good values on not pre-judging, jumping to conclusions, speaking without thinking first, "Christmas Magic", faith, and service. This Book Earns Four and a Half Stars! *This book was gifted this book but in no way obligates me to offer a positive review.

    Nice easy read

A very easy romantic novel read with enough suspense to keep you interested. Considering the times we live in it is very real to our every day life. Makes you step back a few times and look at your own approach to personal relationships. Recommended for anyone. Maybe even a must read for men so they can see themselves more clearly.

Loved the great plot and characters in this one!

Wow, I really loved everything about this book! I loved Kenzie, she's had a hard last few years with getting divorced and becoming single and a parent to her cute daughter Sara and dealing with a creeper at her job didn't help anything. But things are looking up for her, she's got a new job and she's planning to move back to her hometown, Lake Forest, and buy her brother's house, she can't wait to tell him on Christmas morning...but then she sees the sold sign in his front yard and she can't believe it. I loved the tenacious way that Kenzie goes about her life. She knows that her brother's house has sold, but she keeps trying to come up with any way that she can for her to end up with the house that she grew up in, not Jared. What was kind of funny is that she ends up talking the person who was planning to buy his house out of it, without even knowing that she had. And then came the guilt. I liked that Kenzie was willing to work very hard to make sure that Jared's house sold in time, even though she knew that it was her that would miss out. I liked Jared too, he also has had a hard few years. His wife died, leaving him alone with their son. Moving to a new town and starting a new business hasn't been a walk in the park either, yet he gets up every morning and is both dad and mom to his young son. The plot of this one is cute. I loved that there is a cute love story but also a cute story from the early years of Kenzie's life that ends up coming full circle before the book ends. This is a cute, clean, fun book that you won't want to put down, I know I didn't! I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
